Biography
Edmund Augustus Samson was born about 1830 in England, United Kingdom. He was the son of Augustus Samson and Maria Doran. [1]
Edmund married Sarah Fairchild in 1855 in West London. [2]
Edmund Samson came free to the Colony of Victoria (1851-1900)
The couple migrated to the Colony of Victoria (Australia), settling in Melbourne. Edmund was appointed to a position at Scotch College, Hawthorn.
Aged 55 years, Edmund passed away at his son's home in Omeo on 22nd October 1885. [3] The Argus published a brief notice of death: [4]
- "SAMSON.—On the 22nd inst., at his son's residence, Omeo, Edmond Auguste François Samson, d'Argenteuil, of heart disease. Fortified by the rites of the Holy Catholic Church. R.I.P.
- "Valedictory—(By Request of the Deceased).—Edmund Augustus Samson, lately deceased, formerly of the Scotch College and of the Torrington-house Ladies' School, wished on his death-bed that all his friends should receive his best thanks for the attention, sympathy, and kind interest they took in him during his long and latterly painful illness."
He was survived by his wife, who passed in 1903 in Beechworth (their son had moved there), Victoria.
