Mary Jane Ryan was born on 12 September 1901 in 10 St Augustine Street, Dublin, Ireland. She is the daughter of James Ryan (a slater) and Mary Jane Keenan.[1] When she was born, Mary Jane had two older brothers and one older sister. Sadly, however, her nearest brother, Thomas, died from whopping cough in 1904, just a month before another sister was born.
In 1911, Mary Jane was recorded as a nine year old scholar living with her family at Bow Lane West, Usher's Quay, Dublin. By this time she had one older brother, one older sister, and one younger sister. [2]
Mary Jane married Edward Collins in St Catherine's church, Dublin, on 11th October 1926. Her younger sister Annie was a witness. [3]
