He and his eldest son had secured title to 500 acrces, Connecticut lands. A few friendly Indians were still in the neihborhood when Mr. Rutty came. Soon after locating he started a nursery, and many of the old orchards in the neihborhood were taken from it. Mr. Rutty was a man of industry and enterprise. While he succeeded well he endured many privations. The first summer provisions were short. He would work until becoming faint and exhausted, then go to the house and drink sparingly of their supply of milk and only food. He shared generously with his neihbors the fruits of his toil; died highly esteemed, 1812. Upon the farm he had improved. • "Orr Scovell is my gggg grandfather (Orr, Elisha, Stephen K. Elisha, Basil, me). He was born Feb. 27, 1767 & died May 6, 1850. Orr and Mary (Polly) Rutty were married at the home of her parents, Ezra & Mary Rutty on Aug. 22,1793 by the Rev. Ebenezer Martin. Court records for Bradford Co, PA show that "Polly Scovill, by her next of kin, Samuel Rutty Her brother),sued for divorce from Orr Scovell for willful desertion" The divorce was granted Sept,10, 1815 with alimony. Orr & Polly had 4 maybe 5 children; Elisha, Ezra, Datee, Wait, Eliza & maybe Mary (not sure if she is Polly's child because Orr remarried in in 1816 to Lydia Chamness and she may be their child). I have spoken to descendants of Eliza and they believe that Polly ended up living with one of her daughters and that she may have even remarried, later in life. Her daughters Datee married Charles Spencer, Wait married James Garrett and Eliza married Charles Ballenger. Do you know anything about Polly's life after she & Orr divorced?"
