Biography

Mary Ruscoe was born in 1610 in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, England, the daughter of Roger and Sarah Ruscoe. [1][2][3][4][5][6]

On 18 April 1631, she married Richard Seymour in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, England, the son of Robert Seymour and Elizabeth Waller[7][8][9][6]

Mercy immigrated to the colonies slightly before 1639 with Richard and their son Thomas and took residence in Hartford, Connecticut.[10] She later removed with Richard to Norwalk, Connecticut in 1650 and resided there until Richard passed in 1655.[6]

While living in Norwalk she married for a second time on November 25, 1655 to the Honorable John Steele of Farmington, Connecticut, the son of Richard and Elizabeth Steele. After their marriage, she removed to Farmington with her three minor sons, John, Zachariah, and Richard, becoming members of John's household. Mercy outlived John, who passed in February 27, 1664/5, and bequeathed to his "dear and loving wife Mercy Steele the house wherin I now dwell and the appurtenances belonging to it." [11][12][13][6]

She passed away after July 4, 1668. This being the date that John Winthrop treated her. She was 67 years old and of Farmington.[14]

Mercy was born in 1610. She passed away in 1655.
