Research Notes
There are several spelling variations for the name /RUNGE/ including /RUNGEE/ and /RUNGHI/.
It is difficult to trace Miltilda subsequent to the 1920 census although it appears she survived her husband Herman.[7] On 24 Apr 1926, Matilda Sickels married James Burnice Sims.[8] That the surname is /SICKELS/ rather than /SICKEL/ might have been an error introduced when writing the register and the location 40 miles from Newark (the home of Matilda for a period) lends some uncertainty to whether this is the Matilda who married Herman. A search of 1930 census records using the name 'Matilda Sims' DOES locate a 'Matilda Sims' in Newark[9] but a close inspection reveals her maiden name was /DERRICKS/ who passed away in 1933.[10] At any rate, the marriage of James Sims and Bernice seems to have been short-lived for one finds James re-married by 1936 and living with his wife in Michigan in 1940.[11] At any rate, there is no record of this couple following the 1926 marriage but one does see a Matilda Sims marrying Samuel Smithers in 1930[12] and a Matilda Smithers who passed away on 10 May 1937.[13]
