Agnes Mary Ann Rowe was born in Durham, Jarrow on Tyne, Norwich, Norfolk, England on September 27, 1884 to parents Walter Robert Rowe and Frances Nurse Rowe.
In 1891 Agnes is visiting her grandparents, Robert Nurse Rowe and Mary Ann Waites, who live in Norwich, Norfolk, England. The Census notes the Parish as Christ Church, her Grandfather works as a carpenter. On the census the residence given for Agnes is Durham, Jarrow on Tyne, Norwich, Norfolk. However on the Census document showing her parents the residence is given as the parish of Christ Church, Long Row, Norwich, Norfolk. [1]
Agnes is 16 years old in 1901, living in 'East Wymer, Norwich, Norfolk, England. Parish of Christ Church New Catton. She lives with her parents and is the second oldest of 6 children in the household. Agnes works as a boot machinist.[2]
In 1903 Agnes marries Richard Wilfred Johnson, son of Alfred James Johnson and Mary Sophia Stone.[3] Agnes and Richard have only one child,
In 1907 Agnes who is 22, her husband Richard and their 3 year old daughter Eva immigrate to Canada. They sail from Liverpool, England via Moville, Ireland on March 1, 1907. The Johnson family arrive in Halifax, Nova Scotia and St John New Brunswick on March 17, 1907. Ship Ionian, Passenger List Page 16/32, #16005. .[4]
The Johnson family has settled in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1911. Agnes is 27 years old and is listed on the census with her husband Richard, her daughter Eva and her brother-in-law Earnest B Johnson. Richard is working as a Policeman and her brother in law is working as a candy maker.[5]
On the 24th of January, 1916, Agnes's husband enlists in the 169th Over Seas Battalion in the war between Great Britain and Germany. Richard gives his address as 1232 Gerrard E. Toronto, Ontario and his occupation as Policeman[6]
After Richard returns from the war the family moves to Saskatchewan, the exact date of the move is unknown. Agnes's brother in law, Ernest, remains in Ontario. In 1921 Agnes, her husband Richard and daughter Eva are farming in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada. The census date is 1 Jun 1921 and the Johnson family is residing on 15 Twp 54-Rge 24 W 3rd. Richards brother Leonard and wife Jessie arrived in 1920 from England and now reside near their farm. Leonard owns and farms the land located at 10 Twp 54-Rge24 W 3rd. The Burley family is shown on this census as residing at 24 Twp54-Rge24 W 3rd. Their son, Clarence, would marry Eva Johnson [8]
About 1936 Agnes's daughter Eva and her husband Malcolm Burley moved to British Columbia and finally settled in Port Alberni. Agnes and Richard also relocated to BC and settled in Vancouver. It is not clear if they travelled together or at different times.
Agnes died on the 16th of May,1951 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She was buried on May 18, 1851 in the Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver, Greater Vancouver Regional District, British Columbia, Canada[9]
