Vietnam War US Marines Cpl, C CO, 1ST BN, 7TH MARINES, 1ST MARDIV, III MAF John enlisted in the US Marine Corps on August 31, 1966 in Pittsburg PA. Arriving for duty in Vietnam on November 30, 1967 he was assigned to Company C, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.
On operation MAMELUKE THRUST a NVA force sprung an ambush on a truck convoy transporting 155 mm artillery rounds on Route 4 half way between Hill 37 and their destination on Hill 55. The security element assigneed to protect the vehicles with their cargo from Company C fought until a reaction force from Company I 3d Battalion arrived forcing the enemy to withdraw from their attack.
Three Marines died in the action and six were wounded, including Cpl Rouse who died as a result of hostile rifle fire.
