Biography
Sergeant David Ross served with Essex County Militia, New Jersey Militia during the American Revolution.
David Ross is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A098379.
He served as a Sergeant with Captain James Hamilton Dempster, Colonels Elias Dayton and Elisha Sheldon in the 1st and 2nd New Jersey Regiments. Additionally he was a recruiter for men in Continental Army in Essex County in October 1777. He married Hannah Scudder.
His death is recorded as 21 Nov 1796 at Elizabethtown, New Jersey.[1]
Abstract of Will 18 Nov 1796 Elizabeth Twsp., Essex, New Jersey, Names only son John Ross and daughter Hannah S. Ross. [Wife not mentioned as she has predeceased David]. Son, John, & friends Joseph DeCamp & James Winants, named as Executors. Proved Nov. 23, 1796. [2]

The Sexton's Records cited elsewhere on this profile contain two other items which are perhaps connected. The unnamed wife of a David Ross Jr died 2 Aug 1787 and an unnamed child of David Ross died 24 Sep 1783. The relationship of these Ross family members to the David Ross of this profile is presently unknown.
