There was a Ralph Roote, son of John and Alice baptized 5 May 1594 in Maresfield, Sussex, England.[1]. If the age on the passenger list is accurate, then this Ralph is about ten years too young to be the immigrant.
"Born about 1585 (aged 50 on 17 June 1635). Planter & husbandman who came to Massachusetts Bay in 1635 on the "Abigail" & settled in Boston. (On 17 June 1635, "Ralph Roote," aged 50, was enrolled at London as a passenger for New England on the Abigail). Died in February 1665/6. MARRIAGES: (1) By about 1633 Mary _____. "Mary wife of Ralph Roote" died at Boston on 15 November 1655. (probably) (2) Mary (Curtis) Ruggles, sister of William Curtis and widow of Thomas Ruggles. On 14 February 1674/5, "Old Mother Roote who was Tho[mas] Ruggles widow afore" died or was buried at Roxbury. "She lived not only till past use, but till more tedious than a child. She was in her 89 year."
"Mary Roote," aged 15, a servant of HENRY COLLINS {1635, Lynn}, sailed for New England on the same vessel with Ralph Roote, but no place has been found for her in this family (although she might be the daughter who married in Lynn).
Ralph Roote married (1) By about 1633 Mary _____. "Mary wife of Ralph Roote" died at Boston on 15 November 1655. They had 3 children: Sarah Balston, Jane Buttell & another daughter who m. a man of Lynn. Savage stated that "His wife Ann joined our church 1639. But our records mention death of his wife Mary (probably a second wife), 15 November 1655." There is no discrepancy here, as the church records in 1639 do give the wife's name as Mary.
Husband of 2. Mary Curtis
Mary Curtis the daughter of Thomas Curtis and 1st wife Mary Camp married Thomas Ruggles 1 November 1620 in Nazeing, Essex, England per John William Linzee citing Parish registers.[2] After Thomas Ruggles died she married second to Ralph Roote.[3]
