Ky was born in 1920 in Lincoln Nebraska. He was the son of Carl Philip Rohman and Beatrice Molly Dierks. He passed away just after his 97th birthday.
Upon the passing of his first wife, he took on the charitable obligations that she had accrued and began whittling them down to the few he was most interested in or felt most needed his assistance.
August 27, 1920 - August 30, 2017 Carl Henry Rohman, 97, of Lincoln, passed away August 30, 2017. Born in Lincoln on August 27, 1920, to Carl Phillip and Beatrice (Dierks) Rohman. Ky, as he was known, graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. He received his undergraduate business degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He then enrolled in the law school at the University, his education interrupted by World War II. As a lieutenant in the U.S. Army, 75th Division, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
After his discharge he completed his law degree and entered business with his father at Sanitary Towel and Laundry. Over the years the name changed to Uniservice, the business lasted 91 years before it sold in 2003. Out of his considerable respect for his employees, Ky always gave them credit for the company's success.
His interest and support of the arts began as a student at Exeter and continued throughout his life. He received the Governors Arts Award, the Mayors Arts Award, Spirit of Museum of Nebraska Art, the 2007 Distinguished NEBRASKAlander's Award, and 2015 Sheldon Award. He served as president of the Museum of Nebraska Art Board and on the Advisory Board of the Sheldon Museum of Art.
Supporting music, classical and opera was also important to Ky. He served as chairman of the Nebraska District of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Ky was active in the restoration of the historic village of Brownville. In his honor an extension of the Governor Furnas Arboretum will be known as the Rohman Garden.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorraine LeMar Rohman. Ky is survived by his wife, Jane, his children; Carl (Linda) Rohman, Melanie (John) Waites, Stephen Rohman, Peter (Patti) Rohman, Jane's children, Mike (Roxanne) Bellamy, Mark (Nancy) Bellamy, Susan (David) Hegmann, Sara Bellamy (Jim Holahan). The grandchildren are Melissa (Kyle) Garrett, Patricia (Evan) Rosenburg, Tommy Waites, Mathew, Michelle, Ky and John Rohman, Andrew (Megan) Alex, Carson, Waylan, Bryn, Gage, Valan Bellamy, Hannah Hegmann, and three great-grandchildren.
