Biography

François Rivette, son of François O'Neil Rivette and Marie Adele Delhomme, was born on 1 September 1851 in St. Martinville, St. Martin Parish, Louisiana, United States.^[1][2] He was enumerated at the age of eight years in his parents' household, during the 1860 census in Grand Point, St. Martin Parish.^[3][4] At age 17, he was enumerated in the 1870 census living with his parents in Laplace, St. Martin Parish.^[5]

He married Marie Dora Guilbeau, daughter of Ulger Guilbeau and Coralie Comeaux, on 2 September 1875 in Arnaudville, St. Landry Parish.^[6] Their known children were:

He was enumerated on the 1880 census as the head of a household, living in St. Martin Parish with his wife and son. François had the occupation of Planter.^[7] He and Dora were enumerated with their children during the 1900 census in St. Martinville. François was a Sewing Machine Agent.^[8]

By 1910, they moved to Lake Charles, Calcasieu Parish, where he was known as "Frank." They were enumerated on the 1910 census living at 118 Gray Street. Frank was a night watchman for the railroad. Their home was rented.^[9] In 1915, they lived at 1122 Ryan Street. Frank was a watchman for the "S P" Railway.^[10] In 1917, Frank Rivette and his wife, Dora, lived at 1122 Ryan Street in Lake Charles, Calcasieu Parish, LA,, with child Samuel. Frank was a flagman for S P Lines. Dora apparently was advertising a spare bedroom for rent, as she was listed in both the residential section and business sections of the city directory.^[11] Frank Rivette (given age 66) was enumerated as the head of a household on the 1920 census, living in Lake Charles, Calcasieu Parish, LA. Also living in the house was his wife Dora Rivette (given age 62), son(s) Sam Rivette (given age 21), George Rivette (given age 17) and Andrew Rivette (given age 38), grandchild Francis McCorquadale (given age 7 1/12). Ella Medicis, a 35-year-old widow, was a roomer living with them. The family rented a home at 1122 Ryan Street. Frank was employed as a night watchman.^[12] In 1921, Frank and Dora, lived at 223 Moss Street in Lake Charles, with children Samuel and George. Frank was a flagman for S P Lines.^[13]

He was widowed on 18 June 1922 at Port Arthur, Jefferson County, Texas.^[14] According to a city directory in 1925, Frank Rivette roomed at 527 Hodges, Lake Charles, Calcasieu Parish, with his son George. His occupation was flagman.^[15]

He died at age 77 of stomach cancer on 30 May 1929 at the home of his daughter, Agnes, at 2610 15th Street in Port Arthur, Texas.^[2] He was buried at St. Francis Regis church cemetery in Arnaudville.^[16]
