Govert was born in 1883. He was the son of Claudius Marinus Ritmeester and Catharina Quakernaat. He passed away in 1966.
Ritmeester was a politician for the VVD party and a member of the Tweede Kamer der Staten-Generaal (House of Representatives) in the Netherlands (1948-1963). From 1936-1943 and 1945-1950 he was mayor of the city of Den Helder, the Netherlands.
