Biography
Maria Riina, daughter of Salvatore Riina and Francesca Paola Cuccia, is baptized 9 November 1902.[1]
There is a Maria Riina who marries Francesco Leggio on 21 November 1926.[2] Four of their children appear as defendants in the 1969 trial in Bari, along with two of Maria's brothers, and Francesco Leggio.
Although the matrimonial index entry does not give Maria's parents' names, it is very likely that this is she. Based on the birth year of her youngest known child, I have concluded that Giovanna could have been born no earlier than around 1895. Given her age at marriage, I would expect her birth year to be close to 1906.
There are no matching baptisms in the index 1895-1900 for a Maria Riina.[3] There is one born in 1911, but she would be only 15 at marriage.[4]
Francesco and Maria have at least four children: Leoluca (1928), Salvatore (1932), Giuseppe (1935), and Francesco Paolo (1939).
Leoluca, named after his paternal grandfather, is born 15 February 1928.
Salvatore is born 16 February 1932.
Giuseppe is born 2 January 1935.
Francesco Paolo is born 28 August 1939.
Francesco, his brother, Vincenzo, and four of Francesco's sons appear as defendants in a 1969 trial in Bari, Italy.[5]
