Mary Richards was born on March 20, 1842 in St Blazey, Cornwall, England, United Kingdom, daughter of Thomas Richards (1799–1872) and Grace Bishop (1802–1883).[1]Mary Richards was baptised on 24 April [2]

Mary (21) married Thomas Eslick (23) (born on November 3, 1839 in Kenwyn, Cornwall) on April 30, 1863 in St Blazey. [3]

The couple had a son, Tom, while still in Cornwall, and sometime before the birth of their daughter, in 1866 immigrated to the USA. Two more sons were born in 1868 and 1870. in 1870 the family of 6 is living in Almaden Township, San Jose County, California. Mary's husband Thomas died in 1873, and in 1874 their daughter also passed away.

Their children were:

Mary (33) married Frederick Argall (25) (born on July 1, 1849 in Illogan, Cornwall; son of James Argall and Elizabeth (Langworthy) Argall) on May 1, 1875 in San Jose, Santa Clara, California, USA.[4]

Mary and Fred became the parents of Alonzo Frederick Argall in March of 1876

Immigration

The family immigrated to Australia, arriving in Sydney on 10 October 1876 [5] They had three more children in Australia.

Mary died in May, 1926 in Katoomba, Colony of New South Wales, aged 84.[6]


MRS. MARY ARGALL [7] Mrs. Mary Argall (84), wife of Mr. Fred. Argall, died at her residence, 'Frederick Villa', Martin Street, Katoomba, last Monday morning. The funeral left at 11 a.m. on Wednesday for the Church of England portion of Rookwood Cemetery. Deceased, who was an old and respected resident, had been in failing health for some considerable time. She leaves a widower and grown-up family; one son, Mr. Fred. Argall, being a well-known local painter.
