Biography

Joseph Rhoades was born in North Carolina to parents who were also born in North Carolina^[1] on December 15, 1909.^[2]

Joseph married Mary Stoner in Clark County, Indiana, on December 19, 1838.^[3]

At the 1850 census, Joseph was 37 years old and living in Nodaway Township, Andrew County, Missouri, with Mary and their children Andrew, Nancy, Elizabeth, and Jasper. He was a farmer, and his real estate was worth $160.^[4]

In 1860, Joseph and Mary were living in the same township along with their children Andrew, Nancy, Elizabeth, Jasper, Lydia, Mary, and Joseph and two day laborers, Julius Smith and John Walters. His real estate was worth $1,200, and his personal estate was worth $600.^[5]

At the 1880 census, Joseph and Mary were living in Benton Township, Andrew County, with their children Joseph and Julia.^[1]

In 1900, Joseph and Mary were living in Rosendale, Missouri, with their granddaughter Louie Rhoades.^[6]

Joseph died at his home two miles south of Rosendale on July 19, 1902,^[7] at the age of 92 and was buried in Fairview Christian Cemetery.^[2]

Research Notes

It kind of looks like the marriage date could be either December 14 or 19, but since Mary's obituary gives December 19^[8] and the license was issued on the 14th, December 19 seems more likely.
