Biography

The son of James Reeves and his first wife, Delsie (Hollis) Reeves, Henry Reeves was born in Wayne County, Tennessee in 1919[1]. In 1920, he and his parents lived in Covington County, Alabama[2]. His mother passed away in 1927 and his father remarried, marrying Myrtle Eugenia (Gist) McCay later that year. In 1930, Henry Reeves and his family lived in Morris Chapel, Alabama[3]. By 1940, they lived in Madison County, Alabama, farming there[4].

Henry Reeves registered for the World War II draft when he was 21, registering in Huntsville, Alabama on October 16, 1940[5]. He stated that, at the time of his registration, he was employed by the Civilian Conservation Corps, in Company 3486., in Huntsville, Alabama. He was described as 5'5" tall and 140 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes. He enlisted, serving in the United States Army as an SP 3 and SP 4, and as a Master Sergeant, serving during World War II and re-enlisting during the Viet Nam War[6].

Before his World War II service, Henry Reeves married. He married Marjorie Eleanor Jordan (1923-1990), the daughter of Alexander Napoleon Jordan and Viola Milliner, marrying in Madison County, Alabama on August 4, 1941[7]. They made their home in Huntsville, Alabama where in 1950, Henry Reeves worked at a shoe factory[8][9][10][11].

Henry Reeves' wife passed away in 1990 and he remarried, marrying Joyce Carlena (Williams) Hughes (1926-2007), the daughter of Carl Williams and Lucille Williams and the former wife of Samuel Eston Hughes. They married in Hardeman County, Tennessee on September 10, 1990[12]. They made their home in Huntsville, Tennessee[13] and later in Memphis, Tennessee[14][15].

Henry Reeves passed away in Memphis, Tennessee[16] at the age of 98 and is buried at Memphis National Cemetery[17].
