Research Notes

  • Most family trees and other documentation about this family assume that he died young, as no further mention of Francois is found in the remaining documents of St. Nicholaes Church. As no later documentation of the Rapareillet family can be found in Valenciennes, it is unknown if this is a fact OR if the family migrated somewhere else, changed their names, or any number of possible scenarios given the turmoil of the Huguenot revolution going on in the area at the time of Francois' birth.
  • Some family trees have listed Francois' name as "Bon", which doesn't seem to have any basis in documented sources. Its possible it was a nickname. More likely is that it was used to justify a connection between the Bon de Rapareillet family of Norwich, England, and Rapalje-20, of which, no known connection yet exists.

Rapalije-1 and Rapareilliet-6 appear to represent the same person because: There is no person named "Bon Rapalje". The records of the St. Nicholaes Church in Valenciennes, Nord, France (then Hainault, Spanish Netherlands), only reflect the baptism of Francois. Some writers have argued that it is a mistranscription of Francois (as a shortened form of Boniface), but there is no evidence that "Bon" as a true person ever existed.
Rapalije-2 and Rapalije-1 appear to represent the same person because: old stray duplicate.
