“Ann Baylis (Randolph) was born in August 1755, the oldest child of John Baylis, and Jane Blackburn (Baylis). When only 15 years old, she married Thompson Randolph, the son of John and Anne Randolph.”[1]
Ann (Baylis) Randolph was killed by Indians with her young son, sometime around 1781.[1] Her husband, Thompson Randolph then killed the two Indians who killed Ann and his son.[2] This attack occurred at Kinslow station, Kentucky, where the family had spent two years pioneering with other families. On the night of the attack, most of men at Kinslow station had gone to defend a nearby fort, leaving only four men to hold down the fort against a much larger group of attacking Indians. Thomas Randolph and his five-year-old son, William managed to escape and make the long trek home to Virginia. [3]

Thompson / Thomson Randolph
He was born Thompson Randolph[citation needed] and the name has been handed down the family line. In older records,[citation needed] the name is often spelled Thomson. The dropping of the letter p often leads people to confuse him with his younger brother Thomas Osborne Randolph.[citation needed]
Thomas Randolph
A son Thomas Randolph is named in the Will of John Randolph, dated 11 September 1789.[4] Perhaps this is a misspelling of Thomson which is perhaps a misspelling of Thompson. Spratlin-29 15:12, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

Is there a reliable source for the name "Thompson Thomas Randolph"? Is this profile intended to be for "Thomas Randolph", named as "Thomas" in the Will of John Randolph Sr (1726-bef.1790)?
Thomas Osborne Randolph born 1764 and Thompson Thomas Randolph born 1746 are brothers with an 18-year age gap. Thompson was sometimes spelled in records in earlt Virginia as "Thomson". In the future, the name "Thompson" does continue as a family name. The reality is most likely Thompson has no middle name or it is unknown and probably should technically be written as Thompson/Thomsom. All records for my 4th great uncle, but the his father's Will, list him as "Thompson"
The will of John Randolph, 1789, mentions Thomas (Thompson) who has already received his part, and Thomas Osborn Randolph who he cuts off with one shilling. Records prove there was a Thompson and a much younger son, Thomas Osborn Randolph. Much of the information on Thompson Randolph is based on "A Family History" by C. C. Randolph written in 1908."
Thompson "receiving his part" of in advance may have been related to the tragic circumstances of his family demise; the Massacre of Burnt Station or previous debt obligations.
I guess I should have instead asked: What is the reliable source (link please) for the first name Thompson/Thomsom? It appears in father John Sr's Will two sons are named: Thomas Randolph and Thomas Osborn Randolph. The Will attached to John Sr's profile is the clerk's copy, so if the original Will exists, that could be checked also for the spelling of the first name.
What reliable source shows that Thomas Randolph in John Sr's Will went by the name Thompson?
What reliable source connects Thompson Randall (1810 US Census) in the tree to this Thompson Randolph and John Randolph Sr?
That tree has Thompson Randolph marrying in 1802 in Muhlenberg, KY. What connects that Thompson Randolph to this Thompson Randolph and John Randolph Sr?
Why would Thompson Randolph, deceased 1826, appear in an 1890 US Census?
The event dated 7 Sep 1789 in the tree says "I give unto my son, Thompson Randolph …". Is there an image of the Will that says Thompson?
The tree seems to question whether the 1810 Census is being conflated between Thompson Randel/Randol and Thompson Randolph. How can this be resolved?
