Thady Quin was born in 1645 in County Limerick, Ireland.[1] He was the son of Donough Quin and Judith O'Riordan.[1][2]
Thady purchased a large estate in County Limerick. On 13 March 1664, King Charles II confirmed on Thady the estate of Adare. In 1688, Sir Richard Carney, Knt, King-at-Arms, entered a record at Ulster recognising Thady Quin's descent from the ancient princes of Ireland.[2] He granted arms to Thady, a Justice of the Peace for the county of Limerick, on 29 November 1688.[3]
Thady married three times.
He married, firstly, to Bridget Rice, daughter and sole heir of Andrew Rice of Dingle, County Kerry,[4] and possibly the brother of Sir Stephen Rice, Knt, Lord Chief Baron of the Exchequer in 1687.[1] DeBrett, Burke and the Registered Pedigree from 1810 state that Thady and Bridget did not have any children.[1][2]
The work of John Percy Keating, including a 1767 Registered Pedigree of Keating, states that Thady and Bridget had one child:[4]
NOTE: DeBrett and Burke refer to Mary as Judith, the 1810 Registered Pedigree of Quin does not name her
He married, secondly, Frances Hull, daughter of Major Boyle Hull, the son of Sir William Hull of Leamcon in County Cork.[1] Thady and Frances did not have any children.(see Research Notes).[1][2]
Thady married, as his third wife, Catharine Morony.[1][2]
Thady and Catharine had five surviving children:[1][2]
