Obituary

Donald Ray Pugh February 14, 1948 - August 6, 2023 Donald Ray Pugh, age 75, of Tuscaloosa passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. John Vaughn officiating with burial to follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice B. and Ruby Lashley Pugh; brother, Ronnie Pugh; sister-in-law, Margo Pugh; father and mother-in-law, Arthur and Bettie Brookover; and sister-in-law, Celia Brookover Seamons. He is survived by his wife, Sarajane Pugh; sons, Paul and Steven Pugh; grandchildren, Evan and Isabella Pugh; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy Pugh, Joe and Renette Pugh, Eddie and Cherry Pugh, and Kathy Pugh; and numerous nieces and nephews. Don was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on February 14, 1948. He graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1966 and attended Livingston University where he received his BS degree. He was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity that he was still active in. He later received his master’s degree in public health at UAB. He was employed for 32 years at the West Alabama Public Health Department in Tuscaloosa as and Environmental Health Supervisor. Don Loved his church, Fraternity Brothers, volunteering at DCH, and watching Alabama Football with family and friends, but most of all, he loved Sarajane. He wrote a little note that we found that stated “Take care of Sarajane (my rock, my love, my caregiver, my Best Friend.) Love on her and keep her close.” Pallbearers will be Jim Yerkes, Jack Bryant, Steve Meggs, Mike Snider, Brian Champion, Kyle Pugh, Darren Owens, and Billy Walker. Honorary pallbearers are One Hope Church, the Men’s Club and Journey Girls at One Hope, John Vaughan’s Sunday School Class, Delta Chi Fraternity, friends, and neighbors of Cambridge Lane, DCH Foundation Volunteers and staff, Dr. Michael Palmer, Dr. Vishal Dahya, Dr. Leonard Jones, DCH Hospital and Hospice of West Alabama. Flowers are welcomed but donations can be made to DCH Foundation or Hospice of West Alabama
