Her mother died when she (Eliza) was about 16 months old, and is buried at the older cemetery in Centreville, alongside of the Pennsylvania R. R. tracks, in the same plot with William Pugh and three babies of the William Pughs, and while there is no marker, I believe that John is there.
Mom, as she wanted to be called was short, stocky and sturdy and as I lived in her home for some of the earlier years, I remember her as kind and an indefatigueable indefatigable worker, lively and quite social. Her greatest delight was to beat the mayor in the sleigh races on North A. Street.
She always kept a horse that could step out in the barn at the end of the lot, at 200 South 13 Street until the automobile came into general use. She and Pop were generous and helped us through many periods of Dad's unemployment. In those days there was no social security or unemployment insurance.
When diphtheria struck Richmond in epidemic proportions in the late nineties, she (Mom) moved into the house, 214 South 13 Street (I was then living with Pop and Ed at the old Wilson home, 200 South 13 Street) and stood with Mother and Dad at the burials of the two little sisters, two weeks apart, Irene and Elizabeth, in the Railsback plot in Earlham Cemetery.
