D15 Richard Puckett, b. Mar. 7, 1718-19 (Vestry Book of Bristol Par.)
E12 Thomas Hobby Puckett. Wife Mary (Polly). There is no proof that Thomas Hobby Puckett was the son of above Richard, but it is the conclusion of several who have studied the records. He buys land in Amelia Co. Nov. & 1777 (Book 14, p. 221). He is in Lunenburg Co. by 1779. Will proved Dec. 9, 1802. (Lun. Deed Bk. 6, p. 13). "To my beloved wife my whole estate during her life time." Mentions son Joel, Joel's son Richard, to son James and James' son James, son John, daughter Agnes. If John has no heirs his portion to be divided among others. Joel and son Richard are executors. Signed, Thomas Hobby Puckett. Issue:
F1 Joel Puckett. Issue
G1 Richard Puckett
F2 James Puckett. A James Puckett, son of Thomas is living in Prince Edward Co. and sells a negro, that he inherited from his father, Thomas Puckett, to Thomas Carter, Nov. 8, 1804. (Lun. Co. Bk. 22, p. 107) Issue:
G2 James D. who moved to S.C. and later to Tenn. Thought to have married Susannah Smith of Lunenburg and Charlotte Cos. Issue:
H1 James D. Puckett
H2 William Smith Puckett m. Delilah Knight.
F3 John Puckett. It is thought that this John Puckett went to Spartanburg and later to Laurens Co. He signs his name both as John and John H. We would guess that the H was for Hobby. The Hobby family was well represented in Spartanburg at this time. Other Pucketts from Charlotte and Lunenburg went to Spartanburg about this time.
F4 Agnes Puckett m. James Davis. (Lunenburg Will Bk. 6, p. 199)

It's believed that William Archer received land on "Old Town Creek" from his father's estate. William Archer's brother received land on Winterpock, in Amelia Co, VA. This gives an idea of the location of Thomas Hobby Puckett's land in Amelia. See 1776 map.

Research Notes
Conflation Warning: Thomas Puckett (abt.1750-abt.1805) who died in Surry Co, NC and was the son of Isom Puckett and his wife Martha, is often confused with Thomas Hobby Puckett in error. They were two different men.
I removed notes, dated 2018 by petersen-1298, regarding FamilySearch LZ9M-1V5 "Thomas Puckett". FamilySearch trees often have conflation issues. That was the case for LZ9M-1V5. Two different families were combined. Raffety-49 02:39, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
Research lead: Thomas Hobby Puckett is believed to be a descendant of Richard Puckett. See research by Robert E. Burke (C8 in Gee's book).
Location: There is no documentation to support this Thomas was in Grayson Co, VA (created in 1793). He was not born there because it didn't exist yet. A different Thomas was documented in Grayson Co, VA, from 1793-1805. Conflation issue.
Rev War Research: See Revolutionary War Research. In short, it appears the Thomas Puckett who served in VA was neither Thomas Puckett the Quaker nor Thomas Hobby Puckett. The patriot was Thomas Puckett (1760-1820) of Halifax Co, VA.

He probably did not serve as a soldier during the American Revolution. The heirs of another Thomas Puckett of Halifax Co., VA, applied for a pension based upon his service. They claimed that Thomas Puckett married Betsy Wood, that he died 29 Nov 1820 and that his children were Stephen Puckett, Polly Hughes, formerly Puckett, and Nancy Puckett.
I haven't seen a document generated during his lifetime, or shortly thereafter, which includes his middle name, "Hobby." If someone locates such a document, please cite it.
although Quakers are known as pacifists, I don't suppose this is necessarily a contradiction, but bears verification. The NSSAR index shows correlates with enough in this profile (wife, DoD, etc) that it is the same person.
Thank you, I totally agree with you. I have never seen but one THOMAS HOBBY PUCKETT and this information is not my Thomas Hobby Puckett. Thank you for your help. Margie
From trees at Ancestry, Martha Page was the mother of Thomas Puckett. She was married to Ishom Puckett, 1723-1758. Grayson County did not exist before the French and Indian War. It was not even settled. So Martha Page would not have been born in Grayson County.
Puckett-736 and Puckett-1135 are not ready to be merged because: Enough study on the Puckett family has not been made. DNA evidence is important because there are so many Pucketts with the same first name.
