The goal of this project is to find every non-living person with this surname and make a wikitree profile for them. We are especially interested in two Mancuso Families from Alia, Sicilia, the ancestors of Marina Mancuso, and the ancestors of Filomena Mancuso who immigrated to New Orleans in the late 1800s. We have not yet found a connection between these two women, and we are trying to determine if there was more than one Mancuso family or if their two families are actually related down the line. They married Centanni cousins.

The name Mancuso means "left-handed", which means the family could have more than one progenitor. More research is needed and we hope you will join us in the search!

We would also like to trace the descendants of the Mancuso family in Italy, in the United States and wherever else they may have emigrated.

We have ancestors of our Mancuso families going back to about 1750 on wikitree.com. We need church records from the 1700s. and the 1600s if we are to trace these families further back in time. Civil records are available on familysearch.org, but they only date to about 1806, during the reign of Napoleon.

Right now this project needs a manager.

Here are some of the tasks that we think need to be done. We'll be working on them, and could use your help.

  • Finding church records from the 1700s, and the 1600s, from Alia, Sicilia and surrounding villages.
  • Adding sources
  • Adding categories
  • Adding relevant templates
  • Connecting family members to the global family tree.

Mancuso may have been one of my brick walls. Family lore says my grandmother's mother was Maria Mancuso. She died in Sicilia about Feb 1920. Her husband was already in Brooklyn, NY and went back to Sicilia to bring his three young daughters to NY. Years ago I thought I found her death record, but that was before I discovered the magic of sourcing! We are not even sure if she was a Mancuso, but it seem likely she was not related to your Mancuso ladies of "Nawlins."
My name is Mary Mancuso, I am trying to find information about my fathers family of which I have none, my father was born in New Oreleans louisiana in 1946

he died in Tulsa Oklahoma in 2006

what I do know is his mothers name may be Katie Scarkino his stepfather Henry Scarkino

I am not sure what his Mothers maiden name is, I also remember the name Sal mancuso & Joe mancuso

all from New orleans

I know this isn't a whole lot of information but it is all I have at this moment

if it helps my father married Sandra Agee also from new Orleans

Thank you

my name is Krista Foos - daughter of the late franklin foos - my wiki tree has much less info then the link above - but Rosaria Mancuso seems to be his mom's maiden name - hopefully connecting can help us both?
