John Porterfield's parents are not known.[1]
A John Porterfield was one of a group of men who organized a Presbyterian Church at Pleasant Cove in Georgetown, Maine in 1736. Pleasant Grove is now Phippsburg. The family lived near Parker Head and is marked on the 1750 North map and then later on Cox Head at Porterfield Creek.[1]
He was married in Georgetown, Maine to Sarah.[2] They were the probable parents of the following children who were born in Georgetown, Maine: [1]
He may have been and older brother or cousin of Patrick Porterfield of Thomaston.[1]
Abigail Porterfield is listed as a daughter but she is more likely a second wife of David Hutchins or the same person as Sarah Porterfield. However, Sarah would seem to be too old to have given birth to three childrsn in the 1790s
