Biography

This profile is part of the Amerman Name Study.

Neeltje was married to Nicholas Amerman.

In his 1959 genealogy of the Polhemus family, Heyward Peck identified her as Neeltje Polhemus, born in 1705, "undoubtedly" the posthumous child of Daniel Polhemus of Flatbush, New York, who was mentioned as expected in Daniel Polhemus's will of 14 December 1705. Daniel's wife Neeltje Vanderveer was the child's mother.[1] She was a sister of Margareitje Polhemus who married Nicholas's brother Derick Ammerman.

According to Peck, Nicholas and Neeltje moved from Long Island to New Jersey where "the parents" (is this Nicholas and Neeltje?) joined the Dutch Church in Readington in 1741. Later they went to Sourland, N. J., where Nicholas owned a two-hundred-acre farm.

Peck identified had six children of Nicholas and Neeltje:[1]

  1. Sarah, born in 173-; Mar. John Wyckoff.
  2. Jan, baptized Aug. 25, 1733, in the Raritan Dutch Church; died young.
  3. Neeltje, baptized April 6, 1735, in the Readington Dutch Church; probably married Cornelius Van Nuys.
  4. Aaltje, married Peter Ditmars.
  5. Daniel, baptized Jan. 14, 1743, in the Harlingen Dutch Church; married Catryna.
  6. John died unmarried in 1777.

She and Nicholas are listed on the baptism records for their son, Daniel.[2] The baptism record names Daniel's parents as Neckelas Amerman and Neltie.[3]

I was just wondering if the parents of Neeltje Amerman formerly Polhelmus can be added to her Profile since you know both of her parents. I can help you do this if you would like me to. Thanks

I did not have that much information when I first started this profile. I am thankful it was filled in but have no information on her parents. I would very much love it if you wanted to add them. As they are direct line ancestors I would be so thankful too, if you are willing to add me as one of the trusted list.
