Biography

Eleanor Plover married on October 4, 1634 in Burford, Oxfordshire, England, Joseph Boyce, son of Joseph Boyce and Margery, who was born in 1611 in Burford, Oxfordshire, England. [1] [2]

She and Joseph were found in the records of Salem as early as 1640. He early associated himself with the Quakers. He was frequently fined for absence from attendance from public worship on the Lord's Day at the Salem Quarterly Court. On one occasion his daughters Esther and Elizabeth are named as well, although Elenor is not. [3]

Joseph's will was dated September 4, 1684 and was proven February 18, 1695, indicating approximately the time of his death. Elenor died about 1694. [4] [5]

In his will ;

  • he devised all his estate to his wife Eleanor for life
  • then my now dwelling house to my son Joseph, for his life remainder
  • daughter Elizabeth Hanson
  • daughter Mary Southwick
  • grandsons (Boyce children): eldest Joseph, second son Benjamin, third son John...(torn) [6]

Their children born in Salem were: Mary, Esther, Elizabeth, Joseph, and Benjamin. [4]

  2. Mary Boyce, baptized at Burford on March 12, 1636/7; married at Salem in 1653, Josiah Southwick [2] [7] [8] [5], son of Lawrence and Cassandra Southwick, who was born in 1632 and died in 1693. [9]
  3. Esther Boyce, baptized at Salem on February 12, 1640/1[8], married February 23, 1663, Daniel Southwick [7], son of Lawrence and Cassandra Southwick, born 1637, baptized in First Church, Salem, Massachusetts on February 21, 1640/1. [10] [5]
  4. Eliza or Elizabeth, baptized at Salem, March 6, 1642[7]; married Tobias Hanson. [11] [8]
  5. Joseph baptized at Salem on March 31, 1644/5; married Sarah Meacham on February 4, 1667/8. [7] [8]
  6. Benjamin baptized at Salem May 16, 1646 [7]; died before 1684. [8] (not mentioned in his father's November, 1684 will)
