Eleanor Pinnock was born 28 Nov 1817 in Standlake, Oxfordshire, England to John Pinnock and Mary (Kinch) Pinnock.
In 1841 Elenor Pinnock ([no age listed]) lived at Brittenton in Standlake with her father John (65-69), mother Mary (55-59), and brother Enoch John (20-24), as well as Issebella Mills (19-23).[1]
Eleanor Pinnock married John Giles in 1842. The marriage was registered in Witney, Oxfordshire in the first quarter of the year.[2]
In 1851 Elanor Giles (age 33) lived in Standlake, Oxfordshire with her husband John (37, Farmer) and two servants: Rose Ann Bateman (26, House Servant) and John Trinder (23, Farm Lab).[3] Their two children - Richard Giles (8, Pupil) and Mary Giles (5, Pupil) - lived in Longworth, Berkshire [most likely at boarding school].
Unable to locate Eleanor on the 1861 census - her husband John Giles (age 47, Farmer of 180 Acres Employing 6 Men 3 Boys) lived at Rock End in Standlake with their son Richard (18), daughter Mary E (15), visitor William W Virtue (11, Scholar), and servant Cook Edward (37).[4] Daughter Martha Giles (6) lived in Draycott Moor, Berkshire with her grandmother Mary Pinnock. John is listed as a widower, but there is no death record for Eleanor and she is back on the next census.
In 1871 Eleanor Giles (age 53) lived in Standlake with her husband John (57, Farmer), grandson Richard (1), and two servants: Edward Cook (45, Farm Servant) and Rose Cook (44, Dairymaid).[5] Son John Giles (9, Scholar) was a boarder in Weald, Bampton, Oxfordshire (in the household of Ann Dutton, the mother-in-law of Eleanor's daughter Mary Ellen (Giles) Dutton - who also lived in Weald with her husband); daughter Martha A Giles (16) was living with son Richard Giles (28) and his family in Sandford, Berkshire.
Eleanor's husband passed away in 1877: "The Will of John Giles late of Gaunt House Standlake in the County of Oxford Yeoman who died 24 April 1877 at Gaunt House was proved at Oxford by Eleanor Giles of Gaunt House Widow the Relict and Percival Pinnock of Standlake Farmer two of the Executors. Effects under £1,500."[6]
In 1881 Eleanor Giles (age 63, Farmer of 160 Acres Employing 7 Labourers & 8 Boys) lived in Standlake with her son John W (19) and three servants: Thomas Richardson (19), Edward Eagle (17), and Sarah Haynes (15).[7]
In 1891 Eleanor Giles (age 72, Retired Farmer) lived at High Street in Bampton, Oxfordshire with her granddaughter Eleanor M Harris (9, Scholar) and servant Florence Miles (14).[8]
Eleanor Giles passed away in 1893, aged 75 years. Her death was registered in Witney in the third quarter of the year.[9]
