George Piggott moved to Preston from Cheshire some time between 1622 and 1642, for he was entered on the guild rolls in that period; by 1663 he was occupying one of the largest houses in the town. George Piggott senior died in 1684. Robert Piggott’s name is attached to a three-storey house on the south side of Church Street on the 1685 plan of the town and a house in Fishergate is shown as belonging to or occupied by George Piggott esq. His sister Mary was married to Richard Assheton of Cuerdale and Downham.
