Biography

George Seabird Pickett was born on 22 Feb 1876 in Marion County, Tennessee.[1] He was the son of George Washington Pickett and Sarah Cowan.

George enlisted with the US Army in Chatanooga, Tennessee on 5 Mar 1899.[1] He served several years in the 7th Tennessee Infantry, Company L. He was honorably discharged at the Vancouver Barracks in Washington on 4 Mar 1902, with a very good record.

George reenlisted several times, eventually working his way up to the rank of Master Sergeant in the United States Army Quartermaster Corp.[1][2][3]

George married [1st] Bertha Cahill on 6 Sep 1905 in Oswego, Oswego, New York.[4] They did not have any children. Bertha passed away on 26 Oct 1937.

George married [2nd] Cora Oxford. They did not have children together.

George retired from the military on 30 Jun 1926.

George passed away on 5 Jun 1948 in the military hospital at Fort Gordon, Richmond, Georgia, United States.[1][5] Fort Gordon was renamed Fort Eisenhower in 2023. He was buried at Arsenal Cemetery in Augusta, Richmond, Georgia.[6]
