Biography

Hans Picard survived persecution during the Holocaust.

Hans was born July 13, 1927 in Mainz, Rheinland-Pfalz, Deutschland.[1] [2]

Hans, his parents, and his brother lived in Mainz, Deutschland when they were issued travel papers June 24, 1938 in Stuttgart. They traveled to England, where they left September 10, 1938 from Liverpool aboard the SS Laconia. They arrived September 18, 1938 in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. Their nearest relative in Germany was Hans' maternal grandmother, Mathilde Dreyfuss, who lived at 53 Kaiserstr. in Mainz and they planned to join a distant cousin, Morris Rosenthal, who lived at 204 Summer St., Boston, Massachusetts, United States. Hans was 4' 8" tall, of fair complexion, with brown hair and blue eyes, and was neither an anarchist nor a polygamist.[2]

By 1940, the family had settled in Fall River, Bristol, Massachusetts.[3]

As an adult, Hans lived in nearby New Bedford, Bristol, Massachusetts, United States.[4]

Hans died February 15, 2008 in New Bedford, Bristol, Massachusetts, United States.[5] He is buried in Plainville Cemetery, New Bedford, Bristol County, Massachusetts, United States.[1]
