Biography

Lafayette Marion Philpott was born about 1835 or 1836 at Cumberland County, Kentucky. He was a son of Horatio Philpott and Dolly Mary Bruce Ellington. [1] [2]

He was, likely, one of the two males, under age 5, listed in the household of Horatio Phillpot on the 1840 U.S. Census at Chariton County, Missouri. [3]

Lafayette Philpot appeared in the household of Horatio Philpot on the 1850 U.S. Census at Buffalo Lick Township, Chariton County, Missouri. He was listed as 14 years old, and born in Kentucky. [1]

Lafayette M. Philpott appeared in the household of Horatio Philpott on the 1860 U.S. Census at Buffalo Lick Township, Chariton County, Missouri. He was listed as a 24-year-old farmer, born in Kentucky. [2]

He served in Company K, 2nd Regiment, Missouri Infantry during the Civil War. [4] Private Lafayette M. Philpott, of Howard County, Missouri, died in the Battle of Pea Ridge, 7 March 1862 at Elkhorn Tavern, Benton County, Arkansas. He was about 27 years old. [5]

He was buried in the Confederate Cemetery at Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas. [6]
