Biography

Solomon and Catherine Phillips came from Rotterdam by way of Cowes on the ship “Phoenix” arriving in Pennsylvania on 28 Aug 1750.

On 29 Jun 1756, Conrad Phillips was born to Solomon and Catherine Phillips. By 1769, they live in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania next door to Leonard Weaver. It looks like Conrad marries Barbara Weaver, Leonard’s daughter. Solomon and Catherine have 5 sons: Conrad, Jacob Frederick, Solomon, and John Phillips; and 3 daughters: Catherine, Elizabeth, and Mary.

After a while Conrad with his family and his father and father in law move to Frederick County, Virginia. They are living there when the Revolutionary War breaks out. Conrad joins as a soldier and he also pays taxes and does things that qualifies him as doing Patriotic Service with the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Solomon writes a will in 1785 making Conrad the administrator. In 1802, Catherine Phillips, Conrad’s mother, dies.

At the end of the 1700s Conrad and Barbara and their 11 children moved to Shelby County, Kentucky. Their children were: John Phillips married Catherine Ribble; Catherine Phillips married Joseph Ribble; Solomon Phillips married Rebecca Boothe; Elizabeth Phillips married Dabney Miller; Mary Phillips married William Clark; Sally Phillips married John Hawes; Barbara Phillips married Jacob Street; Abraham Phillips; Nancy Phillips married Edward Mountjoy; Aggy Phillips married John Mitchell; Amy Phillips married John Floyd; Becky Phillips was blind and deaf and her brother, John, took care of her the rest of her life.
