Sarah was born 9 September 1837 in Montgomery County, Missouri, the daughter of Erasmus Dowell Pew and Lucy Anderson .
At the age of 16, in 1854, she married William Alexander Hogshead in Montgomery County. They were the parents of ten children: Charles, 1855; Demaris, 1857; John, 1858; Cornelia, 1861; William, 1864; Lucy, 1864; Minnie, 1868; Walter, 1872; Nellie, 1876; and Nora, 1881.
Her husband, William A. Hogsett served as a judge and U.S. Postmaster in Moberly, Missouri.
Sarah died 29 September 1898 in Montgomery County, at the age of 61.[1]
Sarah's granddaughter, Mrs. Pauline Bohrer Kirtley, was a member of the DAR, and included the following genealogy:[2]

1. Charles S.Bohrer (b. 1863) m. 1884 Lucy Emma Hogsett (b. 1864).
2. William A. Hogsett (1835-99) m 1855 Sarah E. Pew (1837-98).
3. Dowell A. Pew (1813-82) m. 1833 Lucy Anderson (1818-88).
4. Reuben Pew, Jr. (1790-1858) m. 1810 Sarah Parke (1788-1818).
5. Reuben Pew m. 1785 Fanny Smith 1767-1850).
Reuben Pew (1758-1847) was placed on the pension roll of Kentucky, 1831, for service as private, New Jersey Line. He was born in Morris County, N.J.; died in Kentucky.
