Otto Pendleton, 71, died Friday, Aug. 27, 1999 after a courageous struggle with Alzheimer's Disease.
He was born in Peterson, Utah on Nov. 27, 1927, the eighth child of Lawrence and Anne Byrne Pendleton.
Otto attended Morgan High School where he played basketball, football and baseball. He graduated in 1947 and attended Weber State College, studying business and art for a short time.
On Feb. 15, 1955 he married Vonda Brewer in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Otto operated several stores in Peterson, beginning with a neighborhood snack stand when he was 17. From 1947 to 1962 he operated his business in two locations along old Highway 30 under the name of Penny's (his nickname). In 1969 he and Vonda opened Pendleton's Country Store, which they ran with their children until 1985. He enjoyed the opportunity his businesses gave him to visit with his many friends and neighbors.
Otto loved to play softball and to hear his kids yell"Strike 'em out Dad!" as he pitched. He loved to hike in the mountains surrounding his beloved Peterson and to fish, especially in the Uintahs. He was an excellent carpenter and craftsman, having designed and built two homes and his several stores. He was also a skilled sign painter, working for Young's Electric and Intermountain Sign Companies. His greatest legacy however is his beautiful art work, particularly his pencil drawings of trains in western settings and of historic buildings throughout Northern Utah.
Otto was a faithful, involved member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He and Vonda served in the San Bernardino California mission from 1994 to 1995.
