Biography

Ann was a Friend (Quaker)

On 19 July 1828 Ann married Benjamin Gilbert Gilkes at Avening, Gloucestershire.^[1] They had the following children:

• Marian, born at Nailsworth, Gloucestershire on 24 October 1830^[2][3]
• Edward Arthur, born at Nailsworth, Gloucestershire on 25 May 1834^[4][5]
• Caroline Elizabeth, born at Reading, Berkshire on 19 October 1836^[6][7]

In 1839, Ann and her husband became superintendents of Sidcot School, a Quaker establishment, near Winscombe, Somerset: they stayed in post until 1846.^[8]

The 1851 census lists Ann at Winscombe, Somerset, age 55, born Maugersbury, Gloucestershire.^[9]

Ann died, age 63, at Nailsworth, Gloucestershire on 13 October 1859.^[10] Her death was registered in the Stroud district of Gloucestershire in the 4th quarter of 1859.^[11]
