Biography

Loami Peake was an early settler in Rockford, Illinois..

Loami was born in 1807 in Herkimer County, New York in 1807. He was the son of Rueben Peake and Sarah Freeman.

He moved to Ontario Canada and married Mary Ann Padelford in 1832.

He came to Rockford, Illinois in 1839 and his family joined him in 1840. ^[1][2][3][4]

He established the first harness making business in Rockford. In 1841 he owned the first iron foundry which he sold to James Fountain who moved it to New Milford. In 1852 he built the first public hall in Rockford. The block called “Peake’s Block” was destroyed in a fire in 1857.

Laomi passed away in 1891. ^[5][6]
