2. Her husband James Payne died suddenly,at the age of 36, and the shock occasioned to his widow resulted in the premature birth of the youngest child a few hours later. His childless and wealthy brother, John Payne of Philadelphia, afforded considerable assistance, and some of the children were educated at the Friends School at Ackworth in Yorkshire. Rebecca earned her living as a dressmaker and left London to take a post in the business of William Brady of Dewsbury, a Yorkshire Quaker. Before long, she married a Dewsbury Quaker named David Fox
