Biography

Maria Rosa Palazzo is a Corleone native resident, the daughter of Carmelo Palazzo and Maria Concetta Orlando. I estimate she is born around 1888, twenty years before she marries.

Maria Rosa marries Francesco Paolo Leggio on 10 October 1908. Her parents are both still living.

Maria Rosa and Francesco Paolo have seven children: Maria Antonina (1910), Girolama (1913), Carmela (1921), Luciano (1925), Carmelo (1927), Salvatore (1930), and Bernarda (1935).

Maria Antonina is born 3 February 1910 and baptized three days later. Her godparents are Antonino Cipolla and Caterina Di Puma, a married couple.^[1]

When Luciano is born, the family lives in "a hovel at 2 Via Lanza, close to the police barracks," according to Jones.

Jones reports that Carmelo is born mentally retarded.

Luciano is crippled and frail from a disease he probably contracted from drinking unpasteurized goat's milk. Despite this, by the time he is twenty years old, he is a killer.

Carmela marries Leoluca Marino, an associate of Luciano's, on 4 February 1940.^[2]
