Biography
He was a church deacon at Westminister Presbyterian Church. He is credited with being the first nurseryman in the valley & he provided fruits & vegetables to the settlers. Abel & his wife, Zilpha had three children & one of his daughters, Loraine married William Almy Richmond.
This monument is made of cast iron & was produced by the American White Bronze Co in Chicago, Illinois. They were produced around the turn of the century as a less expensive form of memorialization. Another advantage was that information could be added to a panel without removing the entire marker from the cemetery.

I believe his son, Abel Towne Page, who had the same name, was a member at Westminster.
The monument in the Fulton Street Cemetery is not made of cast iron but of zinc, popularly known at the time as "white bronze."
Portraits of both Abel and Zilpha are preserved in the collections of the Grand Rapids Public Museum.(Ref. # 1985.17.19&20) They were painted around 1820 in Rutland, VT by an artist with the last name of Tuttle. Abel was a church deacon at the First Congregational Church. His picture is in the Park church history book by the late Jame Van Vulpen. He was a member of the church before they even purchased their first building in 1840. The first minister was Rev. A. McCoy, who married Eleanor Sophia to Daniel S. Bacon likely on September 12, 1837. A newspaper of a later date in October states they were married on the 12th at Grand Rapids. As far as I know he was never in the Westminister P. church. My distant relatives were the first two ministers of that church.
