Biography

ABEL PAGE, baptized at Lunenburg, MA, 26 Dec 1784 son of Amos Page and Elizabeth Randell;^[1] d. at Weathersfield, VT, 4 Oct 1870;^[2] m. about 1824, PHEBE EGLESTON (name given on daughter’s death record), b. at Brookfield, NY about 1796 daughter of Walter and Elizabeth (-) Egleston (on death record); Phebe d. at Boston (burial at Weathersfield), 10 Feb 1878.^[3]

Abel and Phebe resided in Springfield, Vermont until 1836 when they relocated to nerby Weathersfield. Abel farmed and kept a tanyard in Springfield.^[4]

Probate

In his will written 6 July 1868 (probate 26 November 1870), Abel Page of Weathersfield bequeathed to wife Phebe the use of any real and personal estate during her natural life, and after her death to be divided equally among their three children: George W. Paige, Daniel A. Paige, and Eliza now the wife of M. P. Squier. Son Daniel A. Paige was named executor. Real estate was valued at $900 and personal estate at $175.^[5]

Children

Abel Page and Phebe Egleston were parents of five children born at Springfield, Vermont.

i ELIZA ANN PAGE, b. 13 Mar 1825; d. at Woburn, MA, 23 May 1913; m. MOSES P. SQUIER, b. at Weathersfield, 4 Dec 1820 son of Peter and Esther (Craigue) Squier; Moses d. at Boston, 13 Aug 1874.

ii GEORGE W. PAIGE, b. 1827; d. at Boston, 30 Sep 1893; m. at Boston, 19 Apr 1863, MARGARET MALONEY, b. in Ireland, about 1837 daughter of John and Ann (-) Maloney; Margaret d. at Boston, 11 Jun 1901.

iii DANIEL A. PAIGE, b. 1828; d. at Somerville, MA, 19 Mar 1900; m. at Lowell, 18 Oct 1855, AURILLA P. CRAIG (Craigue), b. at Troy, VT, 1833 daughter of James and Elmira (Grout) Craigue; Aurilla d. at Somerville, 24 Apr 1904.

iv SARAH B. PAGE, b. 1832; d. 4 Mar 1833.

v CORNELIA E. PAGE, b. 1836; d. at Felchville, VT, 6 Oct 1856; m. at Weathersfield, Aug 1855, GEORGE MERRITT CLARK, b. at Clarendon, 10 Sep 1838 son of Nahum G. and Ann (Round) Clark; George d. at Felchville, 5 Jun 1885. George married second Lucinda Felch. Cornelia and George had a son Edward H. Clark who was living with his grandparents Abel and Phebe Page in 1860.^[6]
