John was born in 1918. He passed away in 1943.
John was a Sergeant in the US Army, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart. He is buried in the North Africa American Cemetery and Memorial at Carthage, Tunis, Tunisia.
A telegram was sent to his wife, Mrs. Virginia Dare Fleming Padgett, informing her that John had died from wounds received in battle the day before. He was 25 years old and had enlisted two years prior. He had a young son, Clyde, of three months that he had never seen and a daughter, Peggy Ann, three years old. [1]
