Biography

Arthur was born 1756 the son of Arthur Owen and Martha Andrews. He married in 1786 to Elizabeth Lee at St Mary's Church, Rotherhithe, Southwark, England. He died 8 June 1823 as a result of a blow to the chest when he attempted to break up a fight at a shipyard in Lot 49. He was buried 11 June 1823 in the Old Protestant Cemetery, Charlottetown, PEI.

Arthur followed his father as a shipwright in Topsham. Following his father's death and a disagreement with his brother over the Owen shipyard i Topsham, he came to Cascumpeque (now Alberton) to build ships for John HIll, merchant. Due to some disagreement with John Hill, he returned to England where he married. In 1790 he return to PEI permanently.

Following John Hill's legal problems, Arthur moved to Princetown (now Malpeque) where he received a land grant and opened a shipyard.
