Biography

Edythe May Oulton was born 6 January 1916 at Cape Spear, Westmorland, New Brunswick, Canada [1] the daughter of William Enzor Oulton and Alice May Strang. While her name is given as Edith May Oulton on her Registration of Birth, she always used Edythe May as her name and corrected the original in 1975.

Edy attended local school in Cape Tormentine/Bayfield and then high school in Port Elgin, NB. She then worked for the Bank of Nova Scotia in Amherst, NS. While working in Amherst she meet William Lee Owen and they maintained a relationship even though Bill was subsequently transferred to Halifax, NS. When Bill was promoted and transferred to St John's, Newfoundland, he was finally allowed by the bank to be married and so they were married in Bayfield, Westmorland, New Brunswick, Canada on 22 June 1942[2] . They had five children William Lee Owen, Brenda Lois Owen, Pamela Jean Owen, Arthur Charles Owen and James Wallace Owen.

Following their marriage, Bill and Edy lived in St John's, Newfoundland where Bill was a clerk for the Bank of Montreal. This was followed by appointments to branches in Montreal, Quebec; Kentville, Nova Scotia; Hartland, New Brunswick; St Stephen, New Brunswick and Sherwood, Prince Edward Island from which he retired.

She died 4 January 1977 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada as the result of a heart attack while visiting her son. [3] She was buried in Sherwood Cemetery, Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada.
