Biography

Richard H Ottey was born in Pennsylvania on the 9th of October, 1873[1] to Peter Ottey[2] and Ruth Hedrick[2].

In 1880 he was living in Ridley, Delaware and in the home were Peter Ottey(30), Emma Ottey(27), William Ottey(8), Richard Ottey(6), and Bessie Ottey(1/12)[3]

In 1900 he was living in Springfiled, Delaware, Pennsylvania and in the home were Peter S Ottey(52), Ruther E Ottey(47), William Ottey(28), Richard Ottey(26), Bessie Ottey(20), and Rachel Ottey(17)[4]

He would marry Mary[2] about 1907, and it is believed they may not hae had children.

1910 finds him living at their rented home at 309 Kragon Avenue in Swarthmore, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, working as a butcher[2], and in the home would be Richard H Ottey(36) and Mary Ottey(20)[5]. The 1920 census finds them now living in a rente dhome at 825 W 5th Street in Chester Ward 7, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. In the home were Richard Ottey(46), Mary Ottey(30), and John Stateside (53 Lodger)[6]

In September, 1918 he confirmed he was tall and medium with grrey eyes, and light hair. At the time he was work as a meat cutter and continuing to live at 825 W 5th Street in Chester[1]

He died on the 19th of August, 1922 in Springfield, Delaware County, Pennyslvania[2] and is believed to be buried in the Prospect Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Prospect Park, Delaware County, Pennsylvania[2][7]

OTTEY[8] - Aug. 19, RICHARD H., husband of Mary Ottey; formerly of 825 W. 5th S., Chester, Pa., in his 49th year. Funeral services at his late residence. Waverly ave., Morton, Pa., Tues. 3 P.M> Int. Prospect Baptist Cem. Friends may call Mon. 7 to 9 P.M.
