We are all here today because our lives were touched by Patty. One month
ago, she left us, her closest friends, for the next world. We pray that she will find peace and happiness in God's Kingdom.....and, that we all will be granted the privilege of meeting her again when we all leave this world for that same Kingdom.
I know that everyone here was shocked that she left us all so soon. We thought that she would always be there....because it seemed as though she always was there when we needed her. She never turned her back on a friend, that's for sure.
Patty was basically an honest person, sometimes disarmingly so. She wouldn't hesitate to tell you what she thought. That was a great part of her because you always knew just where you stood with her.
She had a big heart. She always took in the stray animals of this world and nurtured them. She never had any children; but, she treated them as though they were her children.
She was not an only child; but, she was brought up by her great aunt and uncle, Carl and Bert Schunk, as though she were an only child. Since I am an only child, myself, I understand the outlook, and I believe this led to her thinking of her friends as if they were her brothers and sisters. She was my sister, not one of chance; but, one of choice. I am thankful for the years of friendship and sisterhood I shared with her. I will always remember her.
I will always remember how she took the family car without permission and arrived at my house in the middle of the night in pajamas and curlers in her hair and scared me half to death at my bedroom window, wanting to go out joy riding. I will always remember how she got people together to send me money to get home from California when I was stuck there in 1974, without money or hope of a job; and, how she gave me a place to stay when I did get back. I have many fond memories of Patty; and, nothing can take them away from me, not even death itself.
She used to love to come here; and, she told me that she wanted her ashes spread here, along with those of her dog, Chase. That is why we are here today. To carry out her wishes. To set her and Chase free on the warm and balmy ocean breezes, until we meet again.

We got along like two peas in a pod. We only ever had one argument. It was over a game of tether ball. I used to love to play tether ball; and, one day we were playing together, when someone got my attention and she hit me right in the face with the ball! I lost my temper over it; but, only stayed mad for about a day.
We used to go to dances together, play games together, go to movies, and all the things young teenage girls of those days liked to do. We spent time at each others' homes.
One time Patty decided to run away from home, after she had an argument with her adopted mother. She came to my house and played monopoly with me and my mom. Of course my mom got it out of her what was bothering her and managed to talk her into going back home.
I can remember that at one time Patty had about 20 cats, all living in her yard. She used to live right in between the elementary school and the fire dept. and police station. It seemed like everyone used to drop off kittens in the elementary school yard, I guess hoping that the kids would take them home. Well, the kid who took them all home was Patty. She also loved dogs; and, had many of them over the years. She always took the time to teach them as many tricks as she could.
She was my best friend for over 55 years and I miss her a lot.
