Biography

This profile is part of the Osborn Name Study.

Isadora Elizabeth "Dora" Osborn was born on 16 October 1916 in Mobile County, Alabama, United States. She was the daughter of Melvin John Osborn (abt.1883-1946) and Edna Nancy (Gilchrist) Osborn (1897-1999). Her birth was later recorded in Henderson County, Texas.[1]

A 1920 United States Census has not been located for her and her family.

When the 1930 United States Census was taken, Isadora Osborn was thirteen years old. She was living in the household of her father, Melvin J. Osborn. The family name was misspelled "Orsborn" and her given name was misspelled "Isidora" by the census taker. Other members of the household were her mother Nancy E. Osborn, and her siblings, James M. Osborn, Gladys M. Osborn, Cleretter Osborn, Thomas R. Osborn, and Parley E. Osborn. They were living in Van Zandt County, Texas.[2]

She was married to Frank Mings on 04 May 1932 in Canton, Van Zandt County, Texas.[3] They were the parents of at least two children.

She was married to Amos M. Gibson on 16 June 1944 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma at the Church of Christ. The minister who performed the ceremony was Hubert Roach.[4] They were the parents of at least one child.

She was married to Percy G. Williams on 18 November 1978 in Henderson County, Texas.[5] He was mentioned as one of her survivors in her obituary.[6]

Her sister, Clearetta Fenton died in 1984. Dora Williams of Athens, Texas, was mentioned as a survivor in Clearetta's obituary.[7] Her brother, Ross Osborn, died in 1991, and Dora Williams was mentioned in Ross' obituary.[8]

Isadora Williams passed away on 21 July 1992. The location of her death was not located in any records examined so far, but she was a resident of Athens, Texas and Mesa, Arizona at the time of her death. Melcher Mortuary of Mesa, Arizona was in charge of her funeral services. Six children were mentioned as survivors in her obituary.[6] She was buried in City of Mesa Cemetery, Mesa, Maricopa County, Arizona.[9]

In 2000, the obituary of her mother, Nancy Osborn, published in The Tyler Courier-Times, mentioned that her daughter, Dora Williams had preceded her in death.[10]

When her sister, Pearlie Williams, died in 2011, Dora was mentioned in her obituary as one of her siblings who had died before she did.[11]
