Educated at St Edmunds School, Oxford & The Royal Colledge of Science, South Kensington Served as a Lieutenant (Temporary from 22nd Nov 1917) in Royal Navy during WW1, and awarded the DSM (in 1917 whilst an 'Engineman'). Then obtained his ARCS in chemistry & undertook post graduate metallurgy course at Royal school of Mines. 1 year in rolling mill then turned to electroplating: 4 years in research dept of Metropolitan-Vickers ltd in manchester 7 years with Gramophone Company Ltd of Hayes Middlesex Worked at R. Cruickshanks Ltd Birmingham (a leading electroplating supply house) during WW2 After WW2 became electrodesposition advisor to British Non-Ferrous Metals Research Association (London) for 9 years. Then became active director of Atlas plating works Ltd (a Large Trade plating firm) & a director of C.H.RumbleLtd (Gramaphone records manufacturer)
One of the initial members of the Electrodepsitors' Technical Society in 1925 (later this became the Institute of Metal Finishing), presented his second paper - on chromium plating something very new in 1926 - and became its 4th President (1935-7)
Served on various comittees of the BSI, became an examiner in electrodeposition to the City & Guilds of London Institute & wrote several books on Electroplating including: Handbook of Industrial Electroplating (co-author E.B. Smith, 1st Ed 1947, 2nd Ed 1954, 3rd Ed 1964 - & translated into other languages. Introductory Electroplating (1969) Elementary Science for electroplating Students & foremen (1st Ed 1961, 2Ed 1965, 3ed 1969) Installation and maintenance in electroplating shops (1967)

Served on HMS Sarepta & awarded 1st class cert. in Fish hydrophones 9 Aug 1918 Awarded £10 in supplementary prize money by Royal navy 14 feb 1924 (AG Form PM6)
During WW2 active in the ARP as well as with electroplating.
