" There is a marriage recorded in NC for an Isham ONeal and one Ann Arundell in 1779. 'Our' Isham, named above, cannot be the Isham meant as he was b. circa 1782. He died in 1872, so could have been born a few, very few years earlier than 1782, but was not old enough to have married Ann Arundell in the year 1779. I believe Ann Arundell was married to our Ishams Uncle, and our Isham was named after him. The Isham married to Ann A died in 1839. So please be aware of this during your own research and contact this profile manager with further proofs of the identity of the Isham O Neal who married Ann Arundell."
There is an Isom ONeal who fought in the war of 1812 and was buried in Alabama. This is NOT that Isom. The Isham/ Isom ONeal who is buried in Alabama fought at Fort Williams in dec 1814 and died in battle or of his wounds in Jan 1815, and was buried there. His grave is now located under Lay Lake in Coosa county Alabama. He was in his 20's.
When it was known that the lake would cover the existing war graves it was decided to move the headstones, but not the bodies, to a site 57 miles north of Horseshoe Bend Military Park. The stones are not located IN the park and so are not maintained by the government.
The Isom ONeal buried at the original Fort Willams site and the headstone located 57 miles north of Horseshoe Bend Military Park are the same person.
That Isom was possibly a brother of James and Custus ONeal and son of a John ONeal.
