OBITUARY The death of the oldest resident of Kilmore, Mr. Patrick O'Neill, J.P.,late of "Huntington," Sydney-road, occurred in his eighty-eighth year on August 4. He was a native of Cappiwhite, County Tipperary, and arrived in Victoria at the age of fourteen years by the clipper Shalimar in the year 1868. After going direct to Kilmore, he resided there ever since, and his record of public service would probably be unequalled in the district. He was a member of the Turf Club for sixty-three years, the oldest member, of the Agricultural Society, Government nominee on the Water Trust for thirty years, and chairman for twenty years. He also served for twenty-five years on the Shire Council, and was president for four terms. In fact, he was associated with mostly all public activities in the district, and also claimed to be one of the oldest members of the H.A.C.B.S., having joined in 1874. He held most of the positions in the society at various times, and presided at three inter-State conferences, a record probably unequalled. . The funeral took place on Saturday last to the Kilmore Catholic Cemetery, after Requiem Mass at St. Patrick's Church, Klmore, and it was largely attended. Rev. Frs. McHugh and O'Sullivan officiated at the graveside. Members of the Kilmore branch of the H.A.C.B.S. formed a guard of honour at the church and cemetery. Representatives of public bodies acted as pall-bearers, and Messrs. P. O'Hara, J. F. Cahill, and four grandsons—John, Neil, Norman and Adrian Harrington bore the coffin. Funeral arrangements were in the hands of Barry A. Skehan. Deceased's wife predeceased him three years ago, and he was .survived by two sons—William and John— and three daughters—Mary, Ellen (Mrs. P. A. Harrington, Royal Oak Hotel, Kilmore), and Irene (Mrs. J. F. Cahill, Moonee Ponds). R.I.P.
