Biography

Áed (Áed in Macáem Tóinlesc) is said to have been the son of a noble named Muirchertach a member of the Ua Néill [1]

Aodh an Macaomh Toinleasg was s son of Mortogh Muighe Prince of Ulster [2]

"Aodh an Macaomh ("the Lazy-boned") was one of two known sons of Mortogh Muighe Line O'Neill. He was styled variously as "Lord of Tirowen," "King of Cineal Owen," "King of Aileach, and "King of the North of Erin." It is reputed that Aodh shared the Kingdom of Cineal Owen (alternately Cenel Eogain or Tyrone) with Niall, the son of Muircheartach Mac Lochlainn, High King (or Ard Ri) of Ireland from 1156 to 1166. Aodh and Niall were, therefore, Half-kings or Leath Riogha. Aodh reportedly served as Half-king from 1166 to 1177 when he was killed. Niall served as Half-king only in 1167. In their struggles for power, the O'Neills and the Mac Lochlainns fought each other for generations.

Aodh was slain in 1177 in one such battle between these rival clans by his kinsmen Niall Mac Lochlainn (Malachlan O'Loughlin) and his brother Ardghal. The latter, however, himself perished shortly after the battle from wounds inflicted by Aodh. " [3]

Reputed to have restored O'Neill power in the north of Ireland.

Said to be the senior representative of the Uí Néill of Tír Eogain (Tyrone), (the Northern Uí Néill) who in turn claim descent from 10th-century high-king Niall Glúndub [4]

But Ardgal himself was killed by Ua Neill at his [Ua Neill] being killed there.
